Learning how to use a Compass

This CTF class is learning on how to use a compass. If they are all correct, they should all be facing the same direction!  After an in class demonstration, we took our skills outdoors for a challenging test. 

Remembrance Day Ceremony

In November we honoured those who had served in military service by holding an assembly with the adjoining school. I wore my scout uniform that day and found some fellow student scouts from another troop! 

Challenge Problem

A student in the class created this challenge problem for others to solve. The goal is to complete the matrix based on the clues. Good luck! 

Grade 7 Student Led Assembly

The first monday in November, our students led the school in an Assembly based on the Leader in Me second habit, "Begin with the End in Mind". Students from the 7C class came up with inspirational quotes that demonstrated this principle and each presented this memorized quote to the school in conjunction with a slideshow.  The students did a fantastic job!  Well done 7Cs! 

Greenhouse Effect

Students designed an experiment to test the validity and purpose of a greenhouse. The scientific question was given, "Does a greenhouse have a role in trapping heat when placed under a light source". Students were to make a hypothesis, prediction, as well as to create an experimental design. Here are some students at work with their bottles and thermometers. 

Save the Bees!

As part of our Ecology and Interactions Unit, we looked at the "disappearance of honey bees" in recent years as a case study for interactions between living things. Bees form a mutualistic relationship with 1/3 of all agricultural crops produced in the United States, however, many bees are disappearing. We looked at four reasons why bee populations have been in decline, including the the bees relationship with a parasitic mite; Verroa destructor.  Below are a few of the posters that were created in order to bring an awareness to the issue. One poster included a petition to sign towards taking actions one might make to help honey bees locally.
